Gatlinburg was pretty fun. Good to get away and spend time with my mom and Joseph. We made it back in time for me to get evening services at Northport. After this, I talked with Jessica about some things and I feel much better. A feel like a burden has been lifted, really. I'm glad we could talk about it and that I didn't just try to ignore the situation. After services a bunch of people from the college group went to McAlister's to eat. There were some nice girls from Boaz who came and Holly and her fiance were there too. Good to have some new faces. I'm looking forward to the coming semester, although I anticipate having to work very hard to make decent grades. I also really need to be preparing for the GRE!!

I had contacted a conservation group that fights to get imperiled species listed on the Endangered Species Act to see if they could help me get the fish I'm studying and wrote the paper on (the frecklebelly madtom) re-considered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for protection. I got an email from the conservation director, and they are interested in moving forward with getting the species re-considered. He wants to talk with me about it! I feel sort of important. A little nervous, as you might imagine.

Almost through with one more section of lab work for my research. Then I will have some valuable data on reproductive development. Maybe I can get through tomorrow!!

Micah out.

I just realized that you listed "Bernie and a Net" as your current music quite some time ago. I am amused. It had gotten passed my usually-very-perceptive perception. AND, it got me to thinking...I am the creative force that drives all the projects at the UAIC undergraduate research center. I come up with all the good ideas, I turn out data in the wink of an eye (when I work), and I am the glue that keeps everyone together, and I am the grease that keeps everything running smoothly. I know it is hard to be both glue and grease at the same time but, hey, I'm just that good. AND in spite of all this, I am second banana around that facility. Second chair to Dr. Micah G Bennett. He always gets credit for everything, he always gets congratulated on a job well done, he is what every other undergraduate researcher wants to be. I am sick of it. All I hear is "Apologize to Berreta for leaving a mess, Heath", "Try to get to work on time, Heath", "Why can't you be more like Micah, Heath?", "Go fix Specify, Heath", "Clean up the field room, Heath", "Make two copies, Heath". Yes sir, Sick and Tired of it. One of these days when Bernie gets his faculty position, I'm gonna run the undergradute lab. Those will be the days. I'll make all the rough places smooth and all the hard places soft, unless it is desired that there be a rough, hard place. In that case, I will leave the place both rough and hard. Anyway, I HAVE BEEN TO THE mOUNTAIn top and I have seen the other side. One of these days I am gonna be Free At Last, God Almighty, Free At Last.
(In a very high pitched tone)-BERNIE!
(Now, very fast)-Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, Bernie (hold this note for a few seconds)
and a NeEEEeeet (pronounced as "net", but with vocal fluctuation)

I am going to kill you. Not the next time I see you. But one of these days, when you least expect it, I am going to sneak up behind you and shove that publication down your throat and watch you gasp for air. You will die slowly and with much pain. You will no doubt, scream for your mother. I on the other hand will be laughing. That is all I have to say about that.

Also...IT'S ON! You just wait til I get back to Tuscaloosa. I am going to be a research machine. Your head will spin from all the publications I am going to be turning out. This game of one-up-manship has been out of balance for too long. The winds are changing my old adversary, changing indeed.
